Site 8

(RWOP Para. 3009, 4001, 4004, 3010)

Arrival

Baker Departure. From Pond, fly approx. 250, direct Pond Creek Bridge and call clear("South Tower, Factoryhand 123, Pond Creek Bridge clear"). Climb to 1100' MSL, 100 KIAS, switch to Site 8 (Button 11), and fly course 260 to intercept the north side of Hwy 184. Fly along the Hwy to Triangle Factory, then turn 205 toward the baseball complex. Descend to 700' and proceed to the northwest corner of Kings Field. Complete the landing checks, and report to crash "Kings Field inbound"

Alternatively, if coming from the west, fly to the Alabama Welcome station on I-10, and proceed inbound from there, 700' MSL, 100 KIAS. Report "Welcome Station inbound".

In either case, split the field over the centerline, parallel to the course in use. Approach the field to split by flying a path that doesn't overfly the departure corner of the field (Southeast).

Operations

Read the RWOP for all the details. Don't forget the general overview section at the beginning of the chapter on OLFs. This is just a basic overview.

For all OLFs, split at 700' MSL, 70 KIAS. Pattern altitude is 500' AGL. Taxi in cardinal directions or on the paved surfaces. Make a 360 degree clearing turn after manuevers that end in a hover / touchdown. Maintain at least 200' separation (including vertical separation) from other aircraft when airborn. Turns to downwind SHOULD not be made prior to 200' AGL. Switching sides at the field can be done via taxi, or takeoff/resplitting.

Normal, steep, and sliding landings are done to the 2 inboard spots. Quick stops, section, high speed and boost off approaches are done to the high speed lane (outboard of the normal spots, where 3 spots line up to form a lane). Autos are done outboard of that. Low work is the upwind quarter of the normal lane. CALs are done in the wooded area. If Cals are being done, normal operations are done on the opposite side of the field. TLAs are done in the auto area. Fuel is in the northeast corner. There are two taxi lines at the fuel pits. Follow the northern one to go inbound for fuel, and follow the southern one coming out of the fuel area. Also note that you can't land (for crew change) east of pad 4, so that leaves a few pads unused.

Communications

Mandatory calls made to crash include: Inbound, splitting, departing.

Mandatory calls made to traffic include: re-splitting, wave-off, quick stops, high speed approaches, high speed low level autos, boost off approaches, simulated engine failures on takeoff, simulated stuck pedals, and lifting from CAL zones. Also, call when commencing and concluding TLAs.

Departure Routes

Normally, depart from the Southeast corner. Report departing to Crash, and fly 900', 100 KIAS approximately 060 to the "golf balls" (near the chemical plant). Remain north of the power plant, and intercept the power lines coming out of it. Get ATIS, call skeds, and switch tower. Call tower at point snake, descend 700', and fly a Fog arrival.
