Pace

(RWOP Para. 3009, 4001, 4003, 3010)

Arrival

Baker Departure. From Pond, continue on course to intercept the unimproved road. Fly along it until Point Bend (Bend in the road) and call clear ("South Tower, Factoryhand 123, Point Bend clear"). Abeam Tree field, fly 270 to tree field. From tree field, switch button 7, proceed direct Pace, call inbound with crash ("Pace crash, factoryhand 123, tree field inbound."), descend to 700' and execute the landing checklist.

If returning from spencer, you have two choices: a) From pond creek bridge, fly to intercept tree field course rules as above, or b) From pond creek bridge, switch button 7 and call "pond creek bridge inbound". Fly west along hwy 191 at 900', 100 KIAS. Abeam the radio tower, descend 700' 100 KIAS and execute the landing checklist.

In either case, split the field over the centerline, parallel to the course in use. Approach the field to split by flying a path that doesn't overfly the departure corner of the field (Southeast).

Operations

Read the RWOP for all the details. Don't forget the general overview section at the beginning of the chapter on OLFs. This is just a basic overview.

For all OLFs, split at 700' MSL, 70 KIAS. Pattern altitude is 500' AGL. Taxi in cardinal directions or on the paved surfaces. Make a 360 degree clearing turn after manuevers that end in a hover / touchdown. Maintain at least 200' separation (including vertical separation) from other aircraft when airborn. Turns to downwind SHOULD not be made prior to 200' AGL. Switching sides at the field can be done via taxi, or takeoff/resplitting.

Normal & Steep approaches are done to the spots. Take the most upwind spot available in your lane. 90 degree autos, boost off, high speed approaches, and sliding landings are done in the 90 lane. 180 autos are done in the 180 lane. Low work is almost never done at Pace, but you can do that in the upwind half of the field around the centerline. You can take off from the 90, normal, or 180 lane, but unless you are in the 180 lane, you must backtaxi to the downwind half of the field to take off.

Communications

Mandatory calls made to crash include: Inbound, splitting, departing.

Mandatory calls made to traffic include: re-splitting, wave-off, quick stops, high speed approaches, high speed low level autos, boost off approaches, simulated engine failures on takeoff, simulated stuck pedals, and lifting from CAL zones. Also, call when commencing and concluding TLAs.

Departure Routes

Normally, depart from the Southeast corner. Report departing to Crash, then get ATIS, call skeds, and switch tower. Fly 900' 100 KIAS, and fly along Hwy 197 for a Fog or Hughes arrival. For the fog arrival, call tower at Point Snake. Traffic inbound from the west along the power lines has right of way. You will have right of way over traffic from Spencer. For the Hughes arrival, continue on 197 to intercept Hwy 90. Call tower at Point Whiskey.
