NDZ Overview

(RWOP Ch. 3 )

This info is a VERY brief overview designed to help grasp the big picture, and simplify things the RWOP doesn't explain clearly. It is not a substitute for reading and knowing the details in the RWOP.

Basic orientation info

Bravos are parked on rows F-H (The east-west ones), Charlies are on rows A-E (the north-south ones). The fuel pits can only be entered from the west (spot 3). All other taxiways can be either way, depending on demand.

Pads (Marked A-F) are used very rarely. Mostly just for night fam pattern work, and ITO practice in BIs. To use them, coordinate with tower. If it's during the day, you'll be in the maintenance pattern, which is a closed pattern.

Takeoff Spots

General rule: takeoff at the nearest spot that lets you takeoff without overflying something you shouldn't overfly. At night, takeoffs and landings are done either to the pads or to the duty runway, not the spots.

Landing Spots

General rule: Land at the spot that lets you travel the shortest distance to where you need to be, without overflying anything you shouldn't. At night, takeoffs and landings are done either to the pads or to the duty runway, not the spots.

Patterns

Patterns are oriented away from tower in all cases.

The maintenance pattern extends lengthwise from one end of the active runway to the other, and widthwise from the active runway to the end of the perpendicular runway. Stay out of the maintenance pattern unless tower tells you otherwise.

Communications

RWOP isn't 100% correct when it comes to communications. Here is the general order of radio use on the ground:

  1. ATIS
  2. Skeds - "Skeds, 123, outbound to the west, (names of students aboard)"
  3. Clearance Delivery - ONLY USED ON FLIGHTS WHERE YOU FILED A PLAN
  4. Ground - "South Ground, Factoryhand 123, VFR to Pace, 2 hours, 2 souls, Taxi from the Crew Change with Alpha"
  5. Tower - "South Tower, Factoryhand 123, Number one holding short Spot 1, Baker departure"
