Harold

(RWOP Para. 3009, 4001, 4006, 3010)

Arrival

Able Departure. From Fish, maintain heading and intercept power lines to point Hotel. Hotel is defined as the intersection of the power lines, an old dirt trail, and an old pipeline cut. It can be hard to make out so ask the IP to point it out your first time. Call clear at Hotel, descend to 700' 100 KIAS, switch to Harold (button 10), call inbound with crash, and execute the landing checklist.

From the East operating area, enter from Point Racetrack. Racetrack is an overgrown dirt racetrack in a field, located just northwest of a 485' tower, 4.5 miles east of Harold. In actuality, no one really knows where point racetrack is, so just shoot for the approximate area. At racetrack, switch button 10, call inbound with crash, and execute the landing checklist. Fly inbound to Harold along the powerlines, 700', 100 KIAS.

In either case, split the field parallel to the course in use. If it's an East-West course, split over the gravel line. If it's a North-South course, split over the base of the T. Approach the field to split by flying a path that doesn't overfly the departure corner of the field (Northeast).

Operations

Read the RWOP for all the details. Don't forget the general overview section at the beginning of the chapter on OLFs. This is just a basic overview.

For all OLFs, split at 700' MSL, 70 KIAS. Pattern altitude is 500' AGL. Taxi in cardinal directions or on the paved surfaces. Make a 360 degree clearing turn after manuevers that end in a hover / touchdown. Maintain at least 200' separation (including vertical separation) from other aircraft when airborn. Turns to downwind SHOULD not be made prior to 200' AGL. Switching sides at the field can be done via taxi, or takeoff/resplitting.

Harold is used for Tactics. CALs, externals, and pinnacle work is all done in the Northwest corner. That means if it's a North-South course, split for the west and if it's an East-West course, split for the North. Otherwise the field is pretty much like one giant "tactics/auto lane". Sliding landings, hover taxi cut guns, & full autos are not authorized. TLAs / 360 approaches are typically done in one of the corners of the field.

Communications

Mandatory calls made to crash include: Inbound, splitting, departing.

Mandatory calls made to traffic include: re-splitting, wave-off, quick stops, high speed approaches, high speed low level autos, boost off approaches, simulated engine failures on takeoff, simulated stuck pedals, and lifting from CAL zones. Also, call when commencing and concluding TLAs.

Departure Routes

Depart from the northeast corner. Report departing to Crash, then get ATIS, call skeds, and switch tower. Fly 700' 100 KIAS direct Deaton Bridge, then approx 340 to Juniper for RTB.

Alternatively, you could depart at the southeast corner (and report departing to the south), climb 900', and intercept highway 90 to Santa Rosa.
